John Perone
Head Coach
Coach Perone enters his second year as head coach of the program. John spent his high school career playing against Jonathan Dayton as a varsity athlete for then Mountain Valley Conference rival Manville High School. After graduating in 1998 he attended Seton Hall University earning a BA in Computer Science (02') and MA in Corporate Communications (04'). While attending Seton Hall, Coach Perone was a goaltender for the Pirates Ice Hockey Team, competing at the collegiate ACHA division II level in the MCHC and MACHA conferences.
John joined the Bulldog family in 2003 as a Computer Technician for the school district and remains in that role today in addition to his coaching duties. He also volunteers for the varsity baseball team at JDHS in the spring.

Matt Schachtel
Assistant Coach
Matt Schachtel is in his second season as assistant coach for the Dayton Ice Hockey team. He also remains a volunteer coach for the JDHS varsity soccer team. A graduate of Dayton in 2003, Matt was a member of the 2003 Kelly Cup Chapionship team. While attending Dayton he also was a gold letter winner for the soccer team, and played both basketball and tennis for one season.
After Dayton, Matt then attended Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT where he played on the Division 1 Men's Soccer team for two seasons, wearing jersey #11. He then transferred to Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ where he graduated in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic and Web Design. |

Brett Berger
Assistant Coach
Brett is the latest addition to the coaching staff, as he begins his first year with the program. Brett played his high school hockey here at Dayton where he tallied enough points to become the school’s All-Time leader in scoring and assists. In his first year with the team, Brett was named “Rookie of the Year” by the Star-Ledger. His junior and senior year, Brett was named Captain, and eventually helped lead the Bulldogs to their first ever conference championship, winning the Kelly Cup and claiming All-Conference honors.
Brett graduated in 2003, and continued his education at Rutgers University where he played on the club hockey team. Brett later graduated in May, 2007 with a B.S. in Sports Management.

Timothy Kaulfers
Assistant Coach, Sabbatical.
Attended JDRHS from 93 to 97, played defense for the co-op Johnson Dayton team, varsity as a soph jun and senior, was alternate captain as a senior and member of the McInnis Cup championship team in 97. Attended Marist college and graduated in 2001, have been coaching for dayton since 2002-2003 season, most memorable moment winning the Kelly cup that year vs. MKA 2-1.

In lieu of adding to or expanding upon an already extensive compilation of student guidelines and regulations listed in the Jonathan Dayton High School Student Handbook, all players and parents/guardians are asked to take a pledge of commitment to character on behalf of our ice hockey program.

Student Athletes:
The Health Eligibility Packet must be completed and returned to Ms. Guida in the JDHS Health Office at least one week prior to the start of our season. Should the paperwork be returned any later, it may not be processed in time for you to be declared 'eligible to begin practice'.
Parents:
Our event/travel schedule is subject to change based on a number of factors. Anytime a change is made it will be immediately reflected in the Travel Schedule linked below. Please refer to this link periodically to confirm the dates, times, locations and bus schedules of our team.
Practice dates are listed in bold. Transportation back to JDHS after practice should depart from the rink no more than 15 - 20 mins after the conclusion of listed practice time.
All game date return times are approximates based on scheduled game times and reflect the time we expect to be leaving the venue.
If your son/daughter will not be traveling with the team due to an excused circumstance, please complete and return and Transportation Form to Coach Perone prior to that date.
